The Event[s]
Trek for Life and Pedal Your Butte-Off!™ are events that raise awareness of mental health issues and high rate of suicide in high altitude communities. These events are designed to hope and help by stimulating a dialog through community education, addressing the stigma associated with mental health illness, lead the fight against suicide, and provide mental health services for those who are un(der)insured.
In these high altitude communities called the 'suicide belt,' suicide is at epidemic levels at 3 to 4 times the national average!
Walk with us to build awareness and let others know that "You Don't Have to Walk Alone!"
Trek For Life
Held on Saturday, September 13th-14th during Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month the 7th Annual Trek for Life is a memorial hike on the West Maroon Trail through the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness located in the Elk Mountains of central Colorado. The 181,535-acre wilderness was established in 1980 in the Gunnison and White River national forests.
This year we'll have several options for those who want to join us:
- Do a 1-day 'out-and-back' hike on the CB side (Schofield Park to West Maroon Pass and back;
- Do a 1-day hike from CB to Snowmass (Schofield Park over West Maroon Pass to the Snowmass trailhead);
- Do a 2-day, round trip (Day 1 over West Maroon Pass, Day 2 over East Maroon Pass);
- Or hike anywhere to spread the word, and donate to help us fight suicide.
Our memorial hike is timed to coincide with dry weather and the beauty of the turning Aspen trees, this memorial hike is designed to bring awareness to the mental health issues and the high rate of sucidie in high altitude communities.
You can help make a difference by donating and walking with us, and letting others know that "You Don't Have to Walk Alone!"
